I also think you can play, or at least used to be able to play the original game on EA's (or Maxis, or whoever owns them now) site. Except for my 10-20 minute nostalgia fix, I haven't played SC2000 in years, and don't think I ever played the original, so I can't say which one it is more like. I also found another on-line game that was like SimCity, but I don't remember where.
